Mind the Health is a platform that promotes health literacy and empathy by telling informative, engaging stories of people affected by stigmatised health conditions. People with low health literacy levels may not understand a specific illness and therefore stigmatise those who suffer from it. This could prevent a person living with a poorly understood illness from seeking help. Improving health literacy levels can only be done through a true collaboration between different health actors - including doctors, patient associations and caregivers. In times when patient-centred medicine and the humanisation of health care are increasingly valued, the patient’s perspective should be at the core of this collaboration.By telling stories of people affected by stigmatised health conditions, Mind the Health provides them with a supporting network and empowers them to stand up against stigma. Our stories are both medically accurate and easy to understand, helping to improve health literacy and promoting empathy in society.
Mind the Health is an alternative to traditional health reporting by digging deeper into the health problems usually portrayed in the news and making space for messages of disease prevention, health promotion and hope.
